|
|
hi I have decided to go over to udev from devsf and that went without a problem
however, now when I boot I no longer get the service status ie
Start eth0 [OK]
info after all the kernel output.
I like having that stuff there and it is very handy if something goes wrong.
What do I have to do to get it back please? |

*bump*
Also I am able to open a console when booted (or CTRL-ALT-F1 to a virtual) and start/stop a service from /etc/init.d with no problems and I get the green
[OK] infomation.
Also when I shutdown I get the init stopping service information, so init and trhe scripts are fine, it is just at boot they are not shown.
All I get is the Kernel boot info, then nothing extra until init has finished and a login prompt apears (then X starts).
Please how do I get this useful info back? is there an option in the kernel I didn't set? |

There isn't a hidden option somewhere to re-direct teh output of the init scripts to /dev/null is there? |

Do you get an error in your dmesg to the effect of "WARNING: unable to open an initial console"? _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

nop all is fine
I was on IRC last night and some1 said it sounds like framebuffer is taking some time to load up.
I'm going to recompile with no framebuffer to see if it is that.
Does anyone know of a prob with udev and frambuffer? |

Well I have sorted it.
It was to do with switching to udev.
Basically I forgot to make the "null" and "mesage" character device in /dev.
This basically stopped all output until udev made one (Very late on in th eboot process)
luckily I keep a gentoo liveCD always around.
Booted it mounted my root FS and made the nodes in root.
chears
Why doesnt the making of these file's happen when devFS or udev is installed.
Also the fact the an actual device had to be made goes against the point of udev.
Why does it take soo long to create these two devices |
