I could download it fine from here: ftp://mir.zyrianes.net/gentoo/distfiles/fluxbox-0.9.10.tar.bz2. What happens if you try that mirror?

i cant download that either. I get the same, "The server refuses login," error. I get that on everything. Any other hints..I really don't want to reinstall. When I was installing it, i couldn't do a sync or rsync...i had to do a webrsync..is this because of the firewall or is it just me screwing up again? Any suggestions??

It sounds like it probably is your firewall... but I have no idea what you can do to fix it, I'm afraid. :?

Moved from Installing Gentoo to N&S.

Maybe you could post the output of a failed emerge command. Talking to the guys who run your firewall might probably help, too. Have you tried a mirror that uses http?

If you're going through a firewall you need to specify credentials in your wgetrc (either in your ~ or /etc/wget/wgetrc)

http_proxy = yourproxy:port
no_proxy = localstuff.foo
proxy_user = username
proxy_passwd = password
ftp_proxy =yourproxy:port

Also check:
use_proxy = on
passive_ftp = off

Make sure your make.conf is setup properly too, wrt mirrors and rsync servers.

Hope that helps.
