been messing around with MAC address spoofing.
When I spoof everything is as it should be and if I reboot I get my original BIA back again. Now is there a way to read the original BIA directly from the ethernet card even when it's spoofed in linux?
I have another post about "rebooting" the ethernet adapter without rebooting. But if the ethernet card driver isn't compiled as a module there's a bit of problem. Not even sure if it would do the trick simply unload and loading the module.
I'm looking for a method to get the "real" BIA without having to reboot the system and without having to recompile the kernel. Anybody know if this is possible? is there someway to probe the ethernet card directly? and maybe get the BIA direct from it's chip (I guess that's where the real BIA is stored)
thanks in advance,

Hmm, I guess I don't understand your problem. When you are the one changing the MAC of your card, then why can't you just remember the BIA? I need to change my MAC also here at a specific network since the admins are not capable of adjusting the DHCP Server within a reasonable time. But of course I can just revert the step by changing the MAC to the BIA since I remebered it before.
So, could you please be more specific about your problem? Thanks |
