Its a:
P3 500Mhz
192mb ram (MAX)
9.0gb HDD
12.1" XGA screen (1024x768)
Intel 8255Xbased ethernet
NeoMagic 256AV+
usb1.0
firewire
using a Liksys wireless g wlan card (wpc54g)
Now for the hard part, it has no built in optical or floppy, i dont have the external cdrom, and i wont boot from any other cdrom, i do have the floppy drive....right now its running win XP ok, but i want to get linux on here, where do i start? |

Probably the easiest installation method would be to pull the harddrive out of this laptop, and plug it into a desktop machine that does have a bootable cdrom drive, then move it back after you have enough installed so it can boot on its own.
ps. Laptop -> Desktop harddrive adapters cost around $10 |

I have the adaptor, and had this idea as a last resort, because taking this laptop apart is the biggest PINTA!!! |

You will have to use ndiswrapper (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net) for the Linksys Wireless Card. Unfortunately, there are no native (kernel level/user level) drivers for the card, and as such you have to resort to using windows drivers with ndiswrapper.

Your laptop probably supports PXE booting (boot from the network), so you could use the method detailed in the alternative installation guide http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/altinstall.xml
Although, I'm not sure if this would be any easier than pulling the harddrive ... |
