I have a system running a 64 bit 2.6.8 kernel with a SB Audigy sound card. I compiled alsa and the emu10k1 pci driver into the kernel, merged alsa-lib, alsa-tools, and alsa-utils. When I run alsaconf, it can't find any pci cards at all, and when i try running alsamixer, i get a message: "alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device" The sound works fine as long as i'm doing 2 channel, but 5.1 doesn't work. i'd like it to. Anyone know what's wrong? |

I don't know if that's any help to you but I'll write down my experiences here in case someone's browsing the forum for this specific error message...
I got this error after I had set up my system to use udev instead of devfs. Sound output worked, but I couldn't launch alsamixer due to this error. Well, I just forgot to "emerge udev" Compiling a udev-enabled kernel isn't enough. After a reboot everything worked fine. |
