Hello,
I just installed Gentoo on a G3 iMac, 233Mhz, 96MB memory. I decided to use udev and kernel 2.6.7.
How can it be that the kernel picks up on my root partition, but it can't be found in the /dev directory?
Here is my transcript of the boot messages. What could be causing this?

More ifnformation. After the error about not finding /dev/hda5, I am able to login from this prompt:

From here I can see that the /dev directory contains only:
