This problem I get everytime I try to play a DVD no matter if using mplayer or xine.
The same problem occurs using transcode ripping a DVD.
I have looked up the forums and Google but non could offer me a proper solution.
The closest match I could find was that mplayer seems to be very sensitive with foreign libdvd versions, so I unmerged mplayer and libdvd and re-emerged mplayer to be sure to use the mplayer native libdvd.
Yes, my /dev/dvd points properly to /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 as it should. UDF-Support is compiled into the kernel. I can mount a DVD normally and browse thhrough it's contents.
I am using a IDE Drive made by LG, Gentoo-1.4-rc1, a vanilla-kernel-2.4.19, mplayer 0.90_pre8-r1, xine 0.9.13 and transcode 0.6.0. All other packages seem to be up to date.
