Hello all,

first of all im new to gentoo, but over the past 2 days fighting with gentoo/kernel i kinda learned something about it.

My Problem is that i got some stupid fastrack controller where my hdds are configured on with a RAID 0.

I booted up from the livecd. created the paritions, formated them etc etc.
All went well till the part with lilo. I used lilo as i am more used to it than grub.
When i now boot up with grub, i get following error;

VFS: Cannot open root device "ataraid/disc0/part6".
When i fdisk /ataraid/disc0/disc under the livecd, part6 is my Root Parition. Part3 is the /boot part with 100mb.

I have following stuff in the kernel (not as module)
Both FastTrack Controller modules

So i think im fine from the site of the kernel Part.

Im really out of ideas now, as i searched the last 2 days for a solution. I found one solution configuring the .config file of the kernel manually and set those values

CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PDC202XX=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_MODES=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ATARAID=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ATARAID_PDC=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ATARAID_HPT=y

When i do this, i get errors on the compilation of the kernel saying that ATARAID couldnt not be compiled with some .o file.

If anybody has some ideas how to get gentoo to bootup with the array, plz let me know...

THX in Advance

If you needed to edit the kernel .config manually, then you must have some other option configured incorrectly.

Make sure you have the very first option in menuconfig selected, or ataraid will be hidden.
Code:
Code maturity level options  --->
  [*] Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers
