Alright... I have some weird behavior I need assistance with. I have a 6-month-old x86 gentoo box that has been running very smoothly until today. I am direclty connected to to the interweb with a cable modem, which is in working order.
My issue is with my KDE applications - Konq, Kmail, and Kbiff. Whenever I attempt to connect to a remote host by name, I get the error "Unknown Host". Ordinarily, I would assume a very simple networking issue was at fault, however, Firefox doesn't have this problem at all. I can also use the console and ping, telnet, and ftp anywhere via host or ip.
My /etc/resolv.conf hasn't changed since I set the box up. I can ping all of my DNS servers.
My other gentoo box has no issues like this, however, it also doesn't have X installed... Both boxes have exactly the same network settings (besides the ip-address, of course).
I have KDE 3.2.3 / 3.3.0_beta2 installed using kernel 2.6.7-r11. I am in the middle of a lengthy emerge, so I'm trying to avoid rebooting my machine.
Any suggestions? |

Have you checked "/etc/hosts"? You may need to specify the host name and IP address again. Here's my file:
Code: |
192.168.0.1 gateway
127.0.0.1 mininotos.charter.net mininotos localhost
# IPV6 versions of localhost and co
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
