Hi!!! I am trying to solve a problem, I hope someone can give me some good advice!!!
I have a dual boot winXP/Gentoo, and after a long time of using the later, I booted up winXP; it took me just a few minutes before I felt nauseated, also because of all the crap that winXP had picked up, so I decided finally that I want to remove it completely.
Now, what I want to do is have one reiserfs partition only for my whole system.
This is what my /dev/hda looks like:
Code: | Disk /dev/hda: 30.0 GB, 30005821440 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 3648 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 1 6 48163+ de Dell Utility
/dev/hda2 * 2359 3633 10241437+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda3 7 2358 18892440 5 Extended
/dev/hda5 * 7 11 40131 83 Linux
/dev/hda6 12 136 1004031 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda7 137 2358 17848183+ 83 Linux

As you can see, my reiserfs partition is inside an extended partition, and my NTFS is at the end of the disk. Unfortunately, I am not very experienced with partitions....
I would like to either:
1) remove the NTFS partition and expand the reiserfs partition.
2) create another reiserfs partition and have my system see them as only one partition.
Are any of these two options possible with my current configuration? How do I do it? Is it safe? I would like to avoid having to repartition/reinstall everything....
Thanks in advance _________________ Think Gray

I dont't know if one of your points are possible, but I tell you what I would do:
Remove the NTFS Partition or better, only change the type to Linux and format it with reiserfs. Then you can mount this new linux partition to whereever you want.
I really like to have a partition for /home/. _________________ ...it's only Rock'n'Roll, but I like it! |

OK, I solved this one, going for the option number 1.
I downloaded the latest Knoppix, burned the ISO on a cd, removed all the references to the NTFS partition from fstab and lilo.conf and rebooted. Once I had Knoppix running, I deleted the NTFS partition with 'fdisk', and after doing a 'swapoff -a' (knoppix seemed to have mounted my swap partition, that is in the extended partition) I resized the extended partition to its maximum size with 'parted'. Then I started QTParted, and increased the size of my reiserfs partition.
Note that:
a) I rebooted after every operation, even though it was not necessary, because I am paranoid.
b) You should always backup your data before messing with partitions. _________________ Think Gray
