Today I ran "emerge -pv depclean world", it said that I had arts and lots of xfce4 modules installed that were no longer required and that was all.

I unmerged xfce4 some months ago (KDE just has too much functionality :P) and don't use arts (I don't like system sounds), so ran "emerge depclean world".

Now I receve
Code:
error while loading shared libraries: libacl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

from any console I try cp, or ls on. There are probably other commands broken too, but those are the only ones I've found.

I'm pretty stuck for where to start, do I copy the library from the liveCD? Will the liveCD be compatible with the rest of my system anymore (CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer")?

Is there a package I can emerge that it’s contained in? Will Portage even work?

Any help appreciated! Everything had been going perfectly up until this…

it's the package named acl.
Meanwhile, to try rescuing, boot from the LiveCD, mount your root filesystem under /mnt/gentoo but do NOT chroot into it, cp the libacl.so.1.1.0 from the LiveCD to the /mnt/gentoo/lib directory, cd into /mnt/gentoo/lib, fix the symlinks via
Code:
ln -sf libacl.so.1.1.0 libacl.so.1
ln -sf libacl.so.1.1.0 libacl.so
, and THEN only chroot into the system, do an
Code:
ldconfig
env-update
source /etc/profile
ldconfig
emerge --oneshot acl

Yes, I know there are two ldconfigs there. There's a reason for it.

OK - I found the file eventually in acl-2.2.13-r2.tbz2 at
http://dev.gentoo.org/~avenj/bins/

and also libattr.so.1.1.0 in attr-2.4.7-r1.tbz2 at the same site
then I made the symlinks for both files.

Then I re-emerge coreutils OK.

This post also helped..
