|
|
I built a koppix v3.7 system next to a gentoo (identical same system, dual PIII).
Both have kernel 2.6.7-r11. I did not tweak anything - straight install, for knoppix the standard HD install. Both installations work without a snag.
The knoppix beats the gentoo IDE disc performance consistently as tested with hdparm -tT: knoppix 45Mb/s, gentoo 35Mb/s.
I noticed from hdparm -i that the knoppix returns *udma5 whereas gentoo returns *udma4 which probably explains the speed difference. Can somebody point me to the place where these settings get configured at gentoo nd at knoppix.
Thx.

See man hdparm
but as far as I know udma5 should be better than udma4 or am I wrong? _________________ ...it's only Rock'n'Roll, but I like it! |

Oops, misprint. Of course I got my udma4 and udma5 switched around. (I corrected it in the above).
However, this is my problem: following ' man hdparm' I should be able to set udma5 with ' #hdparm -X udma5 /dev/hda' . It doesn' t. It stays at udma4 with gentoo. How come knoppix got it set at udma5? |
