I have a system running with amd xp 2000+ and 2 ide channels on the motherboard, and 2 additional ide controller boards in the pci bus. There are 4 disk drives, plus a dvd burner:
motherboard ide 0 primary 80 GB
motherboard ide 1 primary dvd burner
pci ide board 1 ide 0 primary 250 GB disk
pci ide board 1 ide 1 primary 250 GB disk
pci ide board 2 ide 0 primary 250 GB disk
pci ide board 1 ide 0 primary vacant
Under the 2.4.26-gentoo-r9 kernel, all these drives are addressable, but under the 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 kernel, only the motherboard controller drives are addressable.
What do I need to do to make the additional pci ide boards addressable under the 2.6.8 kernel? |

Under Device Drivers -> ATA/ATAPI/... you will find the drivers for different controllers. Which you need depends on the boards you own. The output of lspci can help with this as it lists what the board actually is instead of what they put on the box. |
