|
|
Hi,
I have a big problem with reiserFS on my root partition, as I had a problem on my harddrive, i used reiserfsck --rebuild-tree and after rebooting all what was inside the /home folder disappeared. The /var folder disappeared too, and inside a /lost+found folder i have a ton of file named with numbers.
I'm kinda lost about that, and i really need help on this. Is there a way to get back everything I lost? _________________ Le gentoo, c'est bien beau...surtout avec un chtit gnome. |

Is this Reiser3 or Reiser4?
I had a problem way back in the day where I was missing the fsck packages, and upon an unclean reboot, lost all my files.
As far as preventing this, I suggest making a new directory in root called /imp or something, and make it ext2, for all the stuff that you would rather sacrafice your first born than lose. Sorry that this is no help to your current problem. |

Well it's reiserFS 3.6.
My /etc folder is still there, so i'll be able to rebuild a gentoo system easily with the settings i had, but it seems i lost all my files in /home.
Like we say in french, je l'ai dans le cul
But one thing is sure, i won't use RFS anymore. Fuck that FS. _________________ Le gentoo, c'est bien beau...surtout avec un chtit gnome. |

If you must hate ReiserFS, at least only hate v3. Reiser4 is a completely new filesystem that corrects all known design mistakes of v3. In theory it should be more stable than any popular Linux FS because it's completely atomic, that is at any given time the filesystem is in a sane state and can be disconnected without causing corruption. |

Uh.. you told reiserfsck what to do. It went ahead and did it correctly. You didn't happen to look to see what the command did before you ran it. Expected behavior. |

If you will hate ReiserFS after it died due to a hardware related problem, you are going to hate every file system there is. |

well, not true. some FS can handel small hardware problems. like if a file gets corrupted it should not take down the entire FS. the odd way resier3.6 allows some bugs that are minor in other FS's to become major. |

and probably vice verse as well. However that is besides the point, I have had complete melt-downs of most FS, if I should start to hate them all after that my options for FS would be smaller and smaller to a point where I could nolonger use any FS at all. We are also not sure at this point wheter the damage was caused by the FS or by user mistake when trying to correct the error. |
