Which app is using my HDD?

Hello! Long after boot ( several minutes ) my harddrive is running crazy. Is there I way I could figure out, which application is using the harddrive?

It could be that you have a cron job running daily. See if you have the file /etc/cron.daily/slocate. This file starts updatedb and it works 10,20 minutus and the hard drive runs crazy.

..or it could be that you have one of these seagate 120GB 7200.7 8MB cache drives that want to do self diagnostics after being idle for a while...and theres no way to turn off that function

once the drive is being used again, the noise stops.
