I'm getting a little fed up with my ad-hoc setup.
The wireless reception from my room to the router downstairs isn't great (in fact, it sucks), but usually, with some trial and error, I'm able to get a link. I have a really long antenna, so when I get a link I duct tape it in place.
So then I reboot. And the link is lost. Why? I haven't moved either antenna. I end up having to boot into windows, running netstumbler, moving the antenna, taping it in place, and booting back to linux. Sux.
Furthermore, is there software out there for linux like netstumbler that will work for my card? I have an adm8211 card - I know the drivers for these aren't very good, but the card WAS only 10 bux. If necessary, I also have an at76c503x (Linksys WUSB v2.6) laying around. _________________ word. |

Sounds like when it tries to bring the network up at boot it won't work because the signal's crap?
It sounds really rough though - if you've got a decent antenna I would have thought you'd be okay in the same house as the AP, unless your walls are made of lead or something.
I'm not sure a longer antenna's that helpful after a point - a directional one would probably work better. I hear you can make quite a good one out of a Pringles can.
Kismet does a similar trick to Netstumbler doesn't it? No idea if it supports your card or not though. |

I think you misunderstand. I can get a signal fine. Network works and everything. In fact, this post is from the wireless.
Hiyaevah, if I reboot, I can't get a signal, even if i don't move the antenna. I'm not changing ANYTHING; I'm just rebooting. _________________ word. |
