First of all I would recomend using portage. In that case, for the first kernel just make sure that your /usr/src/linux points to /usr/src/linux-[target kernel]. Then emerge nvidia-kernel. Then change /usr/src/linux to /usr/src/linux-[other kernel]. Again emerge nvidia-kernel. You can do that without a reboot.
Don't forget to emerge nvidia-glx, which only needs to be done once.
If all else fails, just make a copy of nvidia.ko located in /lib/modules/[kernel]/video/nvidia.ko and copy it back if it gets deleted. _________________ Understanding is a three-edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth. --Kosh
