Dear All,
How can I make KDE to maximise windows only to a size which will not
cover my gkrellm monitors on the side of the desktop? Gkrellm is
always on top, but this means when I maximise a KDE window, I can
see gkrellm, but then gkrellm covers part of the kde window...
In other words, to make kde behave like gkrellm would be another
dock application bar? Under fluxbox, the slit will limit the size of a maximised window. KDE equvivalent?
I got an idea from Javier Marcet on the user list:
Quote: | A workaround: create a new Child Panel with a 1% length and Custom size.
Adjust the size to that of your GKrellm dock and voila.
You can place it either above/below GKrellm or behind it. If you place
it behind, you'll have to make GKrellm come on TOP every time you launch
KDE, since by default the Child Panel goes on TOP of anything else.
If you place it above/below you'll see a minimum small line a few pixels
thick -as much as you want-.

Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to do this. I do not seem to be able to selct "custom size" for a childpanel. Maybe I am just missig
something, but when I create a childpanel, the size can only be
small, tiny, etc. but not custom...Is there a text file wher I could
set this, or a config option I overlooked?
Any hint? |

I right clicked on the child panel and set size to large. I set gkrelm width to 50 and it seems to fit on top nicely. |

Unfortunately, my gkrellm is not as long to span across vertically the screen. And since I cannot set the "lenght" of a child panel either, it sticks out because my gkrellm is not long enough...

yes mine too, i guess i will just have to fill gkrellm up until it stretches right down the page.
It does get what you asked for though! |

I used this same solution (creating a 1% height, 72 pixel length child panel) to keep my windows from covering up (or under) Gkrellm. Kind of lame, but it worked (with KDE 3.2)
Now (with KDE 3.3) it doesn't work so good anymore. Gkrellm cannot automatically return to the far right side of the screen, it is placed automatically outside the boundary of the child panel. I have to ALT+drag Gkrellm across the boundary of the child panel. After that, it's smooth sailing. But whenever I have to restart Gkrellm, and whenever I log into KDE, I have to monkey around with it.
Is there any real solution to all of this? |
