OFF-TOPIC Moving to france...

Hello,
My name is Nate, I am from Madison, Wisconsin. I want to move to france after i get out of college (possibly later depending on money). I am curious how hard it is to get started and if anyone else has had any experience with being an expatriate, especially in France. Im sorry that my french is not very good at this time. If i do decide to move there, i would obviously have to get french lessons. haha.

I wouldn't suggest moving to France until you have a foot in the door, i.e. you haev a company willing to hire you.
Also, I would .. REALLY ... suggest starting to at least type in French. You're gonna have to put in the effort.

I know, im not even in college. Im almost 17, this is for future reference. My french is so horrible, i wouldnt even want to type in french.

Hey, learning a new language is just like learning to use Linux. Practice practice practice, fuck up, learn from mistakes, get better. We won't laugh at you if you are earnestly attempting.

i advise you to go in a big town in order to practise a lot of activities and by the way to meet a lot of people ! i think it is the best way to learn a foreign language. taking French lessons is a good thing of course but not a good starting point i think. First practise, and after perfect your french with lessons.

You know you're getting a handle on the language when you start thinking in French. If you want a way to get up to speed with your French, I highly recommend French With Michel Thomas CDs.

Je sais tres peu francais. Je suis desolez (sp?). Je veux (want not sure if thats correct) bouger France.

This is me trying very hard and looking through a vocab book. As i said, its been a while since ive spoken in french or done any work in french. Im sorry for my horribly written french.

After posting this, i reliezed how pointless it was, im sorry once again lol.

Don't be afraid! Have the courage that I didn't have..
It will be slow and painful in the beginning, but we'll help you get better. It'll be faster than in a class. Force yourself to read the threads here, PM somebody like me when you need a word translation.. we'll help!

Je ne comprend pas.

1 thing i learned well in french class. How to say Je ne sais pas and je ne comprend pas. Well, i learned how to say it, not sure if thats how you write it.

Thanks for all your help, I would be posting more, but, i just got rid of windows (thank god) because i got a virus (surprise) and so im now installing gentoo again. I was running windows to play this game i could not get to work (NFSU). And when i had tried to reinstall gentoo, the kernel i was using was being bitchy. Right now im at school.

Im not sure if that makes sense. I was trying to use a translator to look up words. But most translators suck. Also, im not sure how to conjugate dire.
