The best way to use a Zoom X4 modem is to connect via the ethernet port. You don't need to install anything, and it's a lot simpler to set up than the USB connection.

You mention eth0 - you have an ethernet card in your pc I guess?

First, connect the supplied ethernet cable to your pc and the X4.

Then make power up the X4. You should get a red power LED followed by a blinking green link LED. The green lan LED will light when a valid network connection is established. If your pc is turned on and the lan LED is off, try swapping the ethernet cable for a crossover ethernet cable. You may to swap if you connect the X4 to a hub or switch.

Next, configure your eth0 interface to another 10.0.0.0 network address, say 10.0.0.3.

Then configure eth0 as the default route.

Now start a web browser and browse to http://10.0.0.2. With any luck you should get the Zoom X4 web management log on dialog box. Type in the default user name admin and password zoomadsl, and you should then have access to the X4 management console itself.

Set the necessary stuff according to the user manual. In particular set the lan ip address to match your local network.

If you need more help let me know.
