Hello,

I searched the forums for that problem but none of the topics helped me so far.
I installed a win xp pro within the latest vmware version - now I want to use an usb smartcard reader but the virtual machine cannot access the usb device.
The option - automatically connect usb devices... - is activated.
Now I've read that there could be a problem with the built in support of usb - so I compiled all usb things as a module. I even tried two different usb-uhci modules. The card reader has no support for linux so there is no chance of a blocking module.
I see the normal "is not claimed by any active driver" message but vmware don't want to know about it.
I also tried it with an usb stick (usb-storage on hotplug blacklist) - same error or better just nothing happens.

How can I connect an usb device to my vmachine? It was the only reason for installing that damn win xp.
Please help me...

ps - if it's important to know - I'm using kernel 2.4.27

I periodically had the same problem under 2.6 as well. I found that I had to leave usbserial available but blacklist only visor. Also, be VERY aware of the mouse location in VMWare. It behaves much like an X app, and if the mouse is not in the window, it does not seem to work.

Thankfully, I worked it out. I use VMWare instances for different contracts, keeping Outlook separate in each case. Then I sync them all to my Kontact, and I have one master schedule. Eats hard drive, but I can keep all the work clean.

Hi,

How do I blacklist a module? This visor module, in order to don't let it run?

Thnx!
