| So whats the deal with mirrorselect? The last two times I've installed Gentoo and used this to set the mirrors in my make.conf it has come up with a short list of servers overseas (last night the servers were all .de). When it came time to do the emerging many of the servers could not be found or the specific file I needed from the servers wasn't there. Also I've had to manually go into make.conf and remove the garbage that appears before the server list. Is this a common problem? How does it determine which server should be used? |

I've had similar issues with mirrorselect in the past. Mirrorselect seems to love those German servers. I have found that manually selecting servers tends to give me better results. I've been picking academic institutions that are geographically close to my location.
