Not sure if this is the problem, but it is the only thing I emerged since last reboot.

Getting:

mount: Moutning /dev/hdc3 on /newroot failed: Invalid argumet
>> Could not mount specified ROOT, try agian
>> The root block device is unspecified or not detected. Please specify a device to boot, or "shell" for shell...


Running 2.6.8 Kernel, JFS on / and ext2 on /boot. Since install only upgrade is glibc and samba.

Running shell works and I can mount /boot but not my /root partition that is JFS.

Any ideas where to start looking?

are you sure you have JFS support built into the kernel?

Solved it. For some reason it had bad superblocks. So I had to start up the Gentoo cd and do jfs_fsck, then I could start up again.
