Has anyone else had the problem that when you enter your root password it has "forgotten" it?
I have installed gentoo 3 times and everytime it "forgets" my password
yes, i do
passwd
<pass>
<pass>
and it confirms it
Is there a way to retrieve the root password after installation or do I have to do it a 4th time and hope it "remembers" this time.
Please help?
Thanks in advance. |

when do you do this? if you don't do this while in the chrooted environment it will not setup in the /etc/shadow file.
You can always login via single user mode and then passwd from there. _________________ --

To logon in single user mode, in grub you just append single to the second line, in lilo just type single when you see LILO: _________________ --
