Screen is offset by a few pixels

My screen seems to be offset by 1 or 2 pixels to the right. How could I correct this?

It's not a major problem, but it's a little annoying.

I mean it's 2 pixels to the right (things to the far right are a little hidden and there's a small black bar to the left side of my screen).

I use Gnome on a Toshiba A20 laptop if it's of any use.

Hello Bigbang

If this is only in X you could adjust your back porch setting in XF86Config or the xorg equivilant.

Go here: http://www.knowplace.org/timings.html to get explanation of the modeline components. You can change it by plus/minus 8 at a time and the screen offset should get better / worse. If you change it too much, you'll loose the screen (in X only). Once changed restart X.

OK. I understand now.

run xvidtune.
As long as you only make small changes you will be OK. Changes are saved on exit.
If you make a mess of things Ctrl-Alt-Backspace will kill X without saving.

I tried xvidtune, but it didn't seem to change anything.

I tried Left and Right, it changed the HSyncStart and End values, but when I pressed Show, it didn't helped my screen (it did something weird but I pressed ctrl+alt+f6 then ctrl+alt+f7 to refresh the screen and it returned the screen back to normal).

Do I have to save and restart to see the effects? I'm careful because I don't want to mess up anything.

Bigbang,

xvidtune moves the picture around in front of your eyes as you click.

Changes drop out if you don't save.
If your display uses the DVI interface it may not work for you.

Oh, ok I must use something different then since it does nothing wherever I click, beside the "next" and "previous" buttons that show me possible configurations that are crap.

I'd try bullion's link's way but there are too many settings that I'm not familiar with and that aren't well explained.
