|
|
Hi All:
I have the option to set up my DNS for my domain, and have been thinking about making my machine at home the MX for it. This has a few drawbacks:
1. I have cable internet, and my IP does sometimes change
2. As a result of 1, I can't setup reverse DNS
3. As a further result of 1, mail might get delivered to the wrong machine if my IP does change because of DNS caches
My current setup uses mail forwarding at the DNS provider (zoneedit) to forward mail to specified ISP accounts. I then use fetchmail on my machine at home to pull these together, put them in the appropriate user accounts and forward to my GMail archive.
Am I already doing the most appropriate thing, or should I setup the machine at home to be the MX for the domain? _________________ No guilt in life, no fear in death

ZoneEdit is okay, but they do not offer stuff for dynamic adresses. Go to EveryDNS and sign up there (it is free) and there you can set up your dynamic server to have a dns address.
cheers

Sure they do. Zoneedit kicks butt. Check out my post on how to integrate it with your dhcp client here. _________________ http://get.a.clue.de |

BTW Zoneedit seems to have fairly low TTLs so when your ip *does* get changed the changes are picked up within about 10 minutes. I run my own mta at home using zoneedit and I've had nothing but great success. _________________ http://get.a.clue.de |
