hi everyone!
i have this weird problem...
my home gateway server used to run a 2.6.8 kernel smoothly for several weeks. one day, it just didn't boot... after plugging a monitor i see that it hangs at "calculating module dependencies"... i just don't know why it had allways booted and then stopped.
some other kernels (2.6.6, 2.6.7) boot up properly... but even cleaning all traces of that supposedly bad 2.6.8 kernel and compiling it from a make mrproper... the same happens.
am i the only one having this problem? what do you advise?
thanks.

i sorted it out somehow.
after some checking, the "Calculating module dependencies" runs the modules-update program, which i checked and found out that it generates /etc/modules.conf.
i assumed there would be some problem with the program, so i reemerged baselayout (qpkg -f $(which modules-update) resulted in baselayout).
nothing changed. then i erased /etc/modules.conf.
it has booted ok ever since. i can only assume that modules.conf or something else got somehow corrupted.
even though there were no replies,
thanks
