hey all,
when i insert the minimal livecd into my purple imac it says it cant read it and asks to initialize or eject. when i put it in and then turn the computer on and hold down c it still doesnt work.
(i burned the livecd using roxio easy cd creator on a windows 2000 machine, if that matters) |

Are you sure you burned the PPC livecd, and not the x86 livecd? _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

If the Mac won't even read the CD then it might be a bad disc. Mac OS has no problem reading ISO 9660 formatted discs. (So even the x86 LiveCD would be readable, though not bootable of course.)
Will the Windows box read the CD? If so, perhaps there is a problem with the Mac's CD-ROM drive?
There's no need to remove Mac OS or format the drive before booting from the CD. You can do that during the installation if you need to. |

hmm, the windows machine can read it, so that makes it a problem with the macs cd reader itself? |

Some older drives have problems with newer CD-R media, it might be worth trying a different brand of CD-R. Also, does the Mac read pressed discs? If not, it's probably the drive. |
