I am using Gnome2.6 with nvidia-kernel 1.0.5336-r4
I have a emachine 667 Celeron with 512 ram
and a nvidia geforce 2 mx 400 "PCI"
I think it is a X config problem because i didn't have this problem until i switched video cards
from onboard i810 to a new PCI geforce 2 mx 400.
I am able to change res fine start and stop fine but when I go to log out it crashes and locks up
nothing works I have to hard shut down by removing power.
I did some searching on the fourms and looked that this thread http://fourms.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php.?t=232050&highlight=nvidia
it talks about doublebuffer stuff.
I don't have doublebuffer builtinto my kernel nor do I have "vga=" in my grub.conf file.
I really dont understand what they are talking about in that other thread could someone
explain if this may be my problem and if not what else might i look for? |

The problem is the later kernels use 4k stacks but the old nvidia drivers (5xxx) that you are using want 8k stacks.
use the latest nvidia drivers (6111-r2 in portage) and this should fix your problem |
