Beim wöchentlichen worldupdate, habe ich das Problem, daß sich keines der mit "emerge -uDvp world" vorgeschlagenen "gettext" Pakete installieren läßt.
Dazu gibt es auch einen Bugreport auf Gentoo.org

Mir ist klar, das ich mit einer Maskierung das Upgrade von "gettext" verhindern kann.
Prinzipiell geht es mir um eine eine Erklärung für das Zustandekommen dieses Fehlers, da dieser auch sporadisch bei anderen Paketen aufgetreten ist.

Was bedeutet dieser Zugriff? auf "dev/random", welche Rolle spielt dabei die "sandbox"?

halt,
ja nicht die sandbox abschalten, die sandbox ist eine sicherheit für emerge und sollte auch immer an sein.
kann es sein das java 1.5.0 bei dir aktiv ist? wenn ja dann schalte mal auf eine andere java version um "java-config -S <vms>, siehe -L". z.b. die 1.4.2-05, damit sollte der emerge von gettext bei dir durchlaufen.

Die ordentlich Funktion der Sandbox schätze ich sehr hoch, werde dieses Feature bestimmt nicht abschalten, wenn es mich doch nur auf eine bestimmtes Problem hinweist.
Danke für den Tip mit Java, nach einigen Kommentierungen des o.g. Bugreports, kristallisierte sich auch das Grundproblem heraus.
Mit folgendem Patch läuft das Upgrade nun Fehlerfrei durch.
