Hello,
I have a Netgear FA311 card that I can not get to work w/ my gentoo box. The card work's if I boot off the CD, however, when using the provided natsemi driver for a normal boot, dhcpcd eth0 does nothing (ifconfig returns negative results...).

I just installed 1.4 and had the same problem because I forgot to add net.eth0 to the default runlevel. Make sure you added it.

FYI I use the same card (under 1.2) with the natsemi driver and it all works OK.

Read the Install Guide. Install under the final steps.

Greetings gentoo community, this is my first post. I had been struggling with my first gentoo install on my machine and did alot of serarching on the forums. Found some great info but couldn't get my FA311 to work as a module. Decided to compile it into the kernel and it worked perfectly. lordcelerborn you might want try that as an alternative!! Also got some good info on grub to get win xp to boot on a second drive. Keep up the good work. I am now setting up X so I am sure I will be searching some more.

Thanks! :)

I also have a netgear FA311. It does not work from any gentoo 1.4_rc2 disk I've tried (athlon-xp grp, and vanilla x86).

This card worked fine in the gentoo 1.2->1.4 upgraded install on the machine before I did the clean install.

My solution was to install as much as I could, using stage 3 and then copy the linux vanilla sources I downloaded from a local windows partition. With a freshly built kernel (natsemi not in a module ... though I haven't tested it as a module) it works fine.

The problem must be in the livecd kernel. I tried all the flags specified in the livecd help screen and it didn't help.

So do I. It works fine with the RC1 LiveCD, but not the RC2 one. Strange things happen, like receive timeout errors and the link being detected as 10Mbit instead of 100Mbit.

Right now I'm booting off an RC1 cd to install RC2 .. seems to work fine so far!
