I have a new Dell Inspiron 1150 with the Intel 82801ICH4 AC '97 sound chipset. I emergeged Gnome and rhythmbox, sound is good. I emerge enlightenment, no sound, no errors. Emerge flux & open box, no sound, no errors. Emerge KDE, no sound. I tell rhythmbox to play a mp3 and it says the OSS device "/dev/dsp" is in use by another program. I tell XMMS to play, it tries to open a subspace channel to V'ger and only several kill-9's make it go away.
After following several FAQ's and howto's, KDE now has sound. All the noises it makes when windows open and close. Noatun plays just fine. Rhythmbox is still complaining about the /dev/dsp, and XMMS is still trying to get through to V'ger.
Anyone have any thoughts? I've tried using the command: Code: | # rhythmbox --just-fscking-work | but that didn't help. It's gotta be something simple.
Cheers,

I have tried making up commands like that to see if things magically work when I'm fed up with trying LOL
When KDE boots, it loads ARTS it's sound daemon, so programs with arts support can use the sound at the same time, like playing something in rhytmbox and playing a game with sound. But it ARTS keeps teh /dev/dsp for himself so the only way to do it is by getting rhytmbox to use sound through ARTS.
Maybe you can find a how to or documentation about ARTS. _________________ Ask smart questions and follow the guidelines to get your post answered|Answer a unanswered post! |
