/dev problems with 2.4.6-gentoo-sources-r3/7

Hi,
I've installed the latest kernel (2.4.6-gentoo-sources-r7) on a fresh installed gentoo machine. I have a problem with the parallel port dev. It's not in the /dev directory. I tried to create it using MAKEDEV but it exites because the /dev is now dinamically managed. I recompiled the kernel with parport and parport_pc compiled into it (not as module) but /dev/lp0 is not created. using the parport* modules they load fine but nothing else.
any idea on what I should check ?
