Hi guys,
I'm a complete linux noob I'm afraid, although reasonably competent with hardware and whatnot.
I've managed to install Gentoo fine (more or less), but I have this problem when I reboot the system (into Gentoo) for the first time. The kernel starts loading and, well you know, to my untrained eye it all looks ok and then it hangs on this:
Code: | ohci1394_0: SelfID packet 0x807f8c56 received |
And everything stops, apart from my scroll lock and caps lock lights which are now flashing.
I have to say, I haven't tried the obvious (recompiling the kernel with no firewire support) to see if it works ok, but I'm a bit loathe to as I like it
Can anyone help? Sorry for what is probably such a retarded question.
Cheers,
- Tim |

I've only ever gotten numlock, capslock, and scrolllock lights flashing upon a kernel panic, so recompiling may be your only option - is there anything else that looks important before or after that message?
If you do choose to recompile don't disable ieee1394, just add it in as a module.
The problem you're getting definitely looks like a bug though, or perhaps misconfigured hardware, though that's more doubtful. |

Nothing else that stands out before, and nothing at all after that message, as I say it just hangs and I get flashing lights.
Will try recompiling with firewire support as a module later today but in the meantime if anyone has any further advice it'd be much appreciated....? |
