i had some problems with my gnome (somthing with gnome panel :\) so i decided to reboot but suddenly i get the messege :

Quote:

populatin /dev/ with device nodes


and a bunch of error (its trying to access stuf but it sayin :premmision denided) and in the end its telling me that i cant /dev/shm :\

WTF?!

2 hours ago my computer was working fine....i just emerged wine to play with it a little and thats all....

i'm running gnome 2.8 , udev-034 , gentoo-dev-source-2.6.8-r5....

new version of tar breaks udev.

What does udev use TAR for ? Is this only specific to users using the tarball method? I run a pure udev one that always is in sync and have had no problems even recently.

Worked for me within about 5 mins, but I only found what to look for because of this thread, so thought I'd post it here in case others end up here too. :D
