Wehnever ever I do an emerge sync my kernel just crashes and my computer becomes useless after the crash. Sometimes the sync gets done but when I goto use the halt command the kernel crashes and when I restart the computer its like nothing got saved to my hard drive...Heres the output in /var/log/messages:

I see some reiser4 stuff in all the kernel crashes like: "Bad: scheduling while atomic" and I think a newer version of reiser4progs is out. Would upgrading fix this and how would I get a newer ebuild since I cant sync portage to get new ebuilds?

I'm not sure what yor problem is, but you can grab a portage tree from any of the gentoo mirrors, just download the most recent snapshot from a mirror like http://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/snapshots/ and then tar -xvjpf the file over your /usr/portage directory maybe that will help

| OK I finaly fixed it..turned out my filesystem was corupted. I ran an fsck.reiser4 and it found some errors and fixed it. I did loose some files during the fix but I had them all backed up before I tried the fsck so its all good now. |
