Hey guys,
I'm having a problem getting gdesklets working. I did an emerge gdesklets-core and everything seemed to have compiled fine, however when I try to start gdesklets a window pops up and says "Could not add display. The display could not be added because it doesn't exist."
I tried searching the forums here but could not find anything close to what I was experienceing. I did try in console to do a "gdesklets start" and got the following output:
Code: | $ gdesklets start
Could not connect to gnome-session. GNOME session management will not be
available for this application.

If it helps at all, my USE flags in make.conf is:
Code: | USE="gnome gtk -kde -qt alsa cdr dvd" |
Anyone have any idea where I could go from here to get gDesklets working?
Thanks in advance _________________ AMD64 3200+ NewCastle

I had to use 0.32 to have it working (when i upgraded to Gnome-2.8). If you are ok to use a version still marked unstable, try that one.
Also, gtk+-2.4.13-r1, python-2.3.4-r1, pygtk-2.4.1 here.
But be aware, some desklets don't work ... no matter which version. _________________ "May God stands between you and harm in all the empty places where you must walk" - Babylon 5 |

To make it work for me, I just marked 'gdesklets-core' as ~amd64, and the display i wanted as ~amd64 as well. Then any dependencies required, and i was good to go. _________________ AMD Athlon64 3000+ Winchester Core @ 1.813 GHz

I am also having problems with gdesklets. I have it working on one computer but on another it does not seem to work. |

In order to have the stable version of gdesklets working (and most work quite fine... some do not start, I have goodweather, a clock and the mac like starter bar, with the icons that get zoomed continuously when hovered) I had to AVOID upgrading pygtk to 2.4.1 and stay with 2.2.0, once I did the upgrade, no desklet worked any more and had to go back to previous version.
(this is possibly a softer alternative to the ~amd64 approach) |
