I just did an hdparm -tT /dev/sda and got these results:

Quote:
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 364 MB in 2.00 seconds = 182.00 MB/sec
BLKGETSIZE failed: Invalid argument
Timing buffered disk reads: 58 MB in 3.02 seconds = 19.21 MB/sec

Can hdparm be used to improve these times? I figured since it's a ultra-wide scsi card it should be faster. Unfortunately I can't ID the drive remotely as I get this:

Quote:

foo:~# hdparm -i /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed: Invalid argument

afaik you cant use hdparm on /dev/sXX devices.
Ive got a SATA drive, whic runs over the SCSI drivers too, I never was able to run hdparm on it. hdparm can only be run on IDE drives, not SCSI ones.

Though I have found that my SATA is as fast as it can be, I used the old IDE-SATA driver once, optimized it with hdparm, and got the same results as with SCSI-SATA driver unoptimized
