|
|
I'm running KDE in my new Gentoo setup and having a heck of a time figuring out how to shut the computer down. I can use the "reboot" command, that works fine. When all I need is to reboot the computer that's fine, but I don't want to carry my laptop around with the hard drive spinning. I carry this computer with me to school three days a week and to work two other days of the week so this is rather important.
If I run a terminal from within KDE I can use SU to gain root access, then reboot the machine. If I use "shutdown now" from that same terminal the terminal window disappears but KDE stays up. If I log out of KDE and drop back down to the command line, I can reboot the computer. If I use "shutdown now" it shuts down root's session and drops me back to the user level command line. Pressing the power button does no good whatsoever when booted into Linux.
My solution so far has been to reboot the computer to the grub screen then use the power button (which works fine from grub, or from Windows for that matter). This is not very efficient and a bit annoying.
Any suggestions? |

I don't know if it works under kde but under the console, pressing the power button on my laptop does the same as shutdown -h now. |
