ok, i'm stumped. i have switched to kernel 2.6.8r8 and pure udev. every thing boots fine, but there is no response from my normal ps/2 keyboard. it works right up to grub. it also worked on live cd and an old 2.4.20 with devfs i have lying around.
i'm thinking its a kernel misconfig, but there isnt an option in menuconfig relating to ps/2 keyboard. and my .config shows CONFIG_KEYBOARD=y and CONFIG_ATKBD=y
please help. _________________ n00b alert!

got a usb keyboard lying around? can you run a ssh server then login remotely over your network? its quite hard to debug these problems when you can't type.. ![Wink ;)](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd |

could you please try 2.6.9-rc4 ? it would at least be comforting to know that the issue wont be there in the 2.6.9 release of gentoo-dev-sources .. _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd |

oh. are you using any usb devices? what happens if you unplug them all before bootup, or disable USB support in the kernel? _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd |

I recently did a phase 1 install on my box (box was currently running gentoo) and have the same problem. USB keyboard does not work. Tried 2.6.8 and 2.6.9-rc, haven't tried running the suggested patch. Have never manually patched my kernel would you mind giving me (more) instructions? |

don't worry, that patch is merged into 2.6.9-rc so it obviously doesnt solve the bug ![Sad :(](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd |

well, kinda tried all the suggestions, but problem remains.
i was stumped, until i tried to test my mouse using cat /dev/input/mice. it froze my system. then i tried unplugging my ps2 mice, and my keyboard works again.
so what do i do, i went out an bought a usb mouse and solved my problem.
thanks for all your help though
now i just have to figure out whether its my ps2 mouse thats broken, or whether its my ps2 port in my mobo thats broken
but the mystery remains in why the keyboard works in 2.4.20 but not in 2.6.8 _________________ n00b alert! |
