Oh dear... I feel terribly embarrassed :oops:
Turns out qt had been upgraded to 3.3.4-r3 over the r2 in the overlay. So obviously things didn't work properly.

Anyways, sorry to mess you guys about with this. All's working fine now.

At first: thx for ebuilds! KDE is looking much better now :)

Now.... I just want to ask - is anybody using translutency support in KDE with this ebuilds? I tried and KDE hangs during initialization (on splash it was second of third image).

Regards,
Przemek

From somebody who's just posted about this and is feeling a little embarrassed still, you are using the patched Qt? That's what caused the problem for me...

Thanks.

yeah, me too, but I have konqi crash now and then, too... annoying. amarok and juk don't work either. I'm trying with just -O2 -march=athlon-xp...

anyway, the shadowfade-at-logout patch works for me, so I think it can be added easilly... ???

Hey guys, I have not had any problems running kde 3.4 (I tried the drag and drop test, which worked perfectly every time), and I have no problems with the perrty patches.

here are my settings:

Code:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium-m -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--enable-new-dtags -Wl,--sort-common"

Maybe this can help you compare your settings.

Which nvidia version are you using? The latest nvidia builds don't play nice with the composite extension of X, and cause exactly the problems you describe. Try reverting back to nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r4.

Ok, I did 2 things, that fixed 2 of my issues.
1. Konq crashes - either it was what I did to fix kde io issues, or it was adding the new love-sources
2. Konq errors when loading media in media:/ - I added messagebus and haldaemon to my user's groups

I'm surprised about genetic, much faster than ck, didn't expect it at all...

NOTE: this is only tested on the desktop

hey, isn't that because a double click on the desktop isn't actually a selection? so dragging isn't selecting anything, hence the rubberband isn't being shown?
or am I mis-understanding?

cheers

Is there any particular reason you'd want to double-clic-and-drag rather than the normal single?

I don't have anything handy to test on, but does this work in KDE without the patches?

No, it doesn't work in normal KDE either. I'm not sure what it would be supposed to do anyway.

Just drag a normal box I guess?
If it doesn't work without the patches, it's not a bug - it's an inherited feature from KDE.

So am I supposed to emerge the latest version of qt (3.3.4-r3) or the one in overlay (3.3.4-r2)?

This problem probably isn't caused by these patches, but just in case it is I'll ask here first:
When I logout, the screen goes blank but then it seems to freeze for a few seconds and kicker reappears! After another few seconds it finally quits and returns to the console (I don't use kdm). Why would it do that?

It's irritating because it seems to be slowing down the logout process.

If you want the transparent-filled rubberbanding to work properly, emerge the one in overlay.

The stuff you're quoting doesn't have anything to do with that though.

I get the same behavior in unpatched kde. I suspect it's due to Aaron Seigo's rewrite of kicker for KDE 3.4 -- it's supposed to be simpler and nicer, but it's also new and has some rough edges still.

sorry to bother, but the upgrade today *again* overwrote 3.3.4-r2 with r3 :D

so I'd like to ask if and when a -r3 ebuild is here...
