I'm using 2.6.8-gentoo-r8 with my 8139too driver [M]. I'll start everything, then get that netmount can't start. lsmod shows the 8139too as being loaded, are there any other modules I need to load?
From an lspci in the livecd my card shows up as a linksys nc100... (rev. 11),
in another post I read I need these drivers to get networking up
ppp_synctty
ppp_async
ppp_generic
slhc
8139too
mii
But I can't seem to find any of them in the kernel config menu, does anyone know where I need to go to enable modules for these drivers?
Thanks. |

You have a linksys card - why use a Realtek driver, then ?
Do you know what chipset is on it ?
None of the other modules are needed to run a network, although mii is often useful. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

It's what was loaded in the kernel config menu, and since I didn't see any linksys drivers then I'm guessing they might've been the same chipset?
Edit- read your sig and it appears I need a tulip driver?
But which one? Gah!
Thanks for the responce btw...I must google more.
Edit...of the edit?
-I tried installing all the drivers in the kernel but I've had no luck, do these *need to be modules? |

The 8139too module has been reported to perform better / not fail when compiled as a module, yes.
But the tulip driver should not have those problems. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

I think the tulip modules does the same thing because it wouldn't work when compiled into the kernel, but when I modularized it everything worked great!
I've gotta say this(stage 1) has been an incredibly easy install, especially considering how powerful the OS can be. Thanks again! |
