Hello,
I have a Palm Vx (same problem with Palm m105) connected to my serial Port.
It seems to be found but does not work. I tried several things:
New Kernel (currently: gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.8-gentoo-r
pilot-xfer:
Code: |
pilot-xfer -L
No $PILOTPORT specified and no -p <port> given.
Defaulting to '/dev/pilot'
Listening to port: /dev/pilot
Please press the HotSync button now... Connected

Coldsync:
Code: |
coldsync -v -p /dev/tts/0 -t serial -mb ~/palmbackup/
Please press the HotSync button.
ACK Timeout. Attempting to resend.
##### Got an unexpected data packet. Sending an ACK to shut it up.

Error establishing CMP connection.
Error: Can't connect to Palm.

Jpilot Backup:
Code: |
jpilot
Couldn't find empty DB file.
jpilot may not be installed.
PADP TX Unexpected packet, possible port speed problem?
dlp_ReadSysInfo error

The Kernel and the port seem to work.
But what is the Problem?
I have to add, that the Palm works under WinXP
and my chip-Drive doesn't work under Linux eighter
So what else can I try? Any suggestions? Are there more relevant Informations?
Any googling was without result.
One suggested a Hardware-Problem, but why does it work under WinXP?
Please Help!!
Markus

Yes i did.
/dev/palm is linked to /dev/tts/0
/dev/pilot is linked to /dev/tts/0 |

Are you using udev or devfs? _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

sys-fs/udev
Latest version available: 030
Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
Size of downloaded files: 374 kB
Think this is the answer. |

I think this is the key. I will caveat this by saying that I am on the verge of not knowing what I'm talking about, but I managed to get my Handspring Visor to sync with Evolution once on my udev Gentoo laptop. Here's what's different from the setup under devfs:
1. Regardless of what dmesg is telling you, your Palm device will show up under /dev/tts. On my system, it shows up under /dev/tts/USB1. I linked /dev/pilot to /dev/tts/USB1 but in my gnome-pilot settings I pointed it directly to /dev/tts/USB1.
2. If you're wondering why you don't see /dev/tts/USB1, it's because /dev/tts/USB1 won't show up until you hit the Hotsync button on your cradle. After hotsyncing finishes, it disappears.
3. Make sure your user is in the usb group. When /dev/tts/USB1 gets created, it's under the usb group.
4. I also added this rule to /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules:
Code: | KERNEL="ttyUSB1*", NAME="tts/USB%n", SYMLINK="pilot"
|
Create /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules if it doesn't exist. I'm not sure how necessary this part is but I'm too tired to get rid of it just to see if I don't need it.
Good luck. As I said, I managed to get it working once, which is all I really needed. _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

I just emerged udev and running, exept xorg.
Working on it.
I tried coldsync -v -p /dev/tts/0 -t serial -mb ~/palmbackup/
with the same Result as above.
Thank you wilburpan for your tip, but i have no usb-palm but it is connected to the serial port.
But I am still fighting with the udev. |

Again,
I have 2 Palm PDAs, both the same problem. Under Windows no problem.
The device is connected to the serial port and /dev/pilot points to /dev/tts/0
What else can I do???
Please send any idea! |

Try this:
1. If you have a Nautilus/Konqueror type program, navigate to /dev/tts. Or open a terminal and "cd /dev/tts".
2. Do a soft reset on your Palm using the little paper clip button.
3. Open a new terminal and use coldsync like you were doing.
4. Then go back your file manager or to your first terminal and start doing "ls -l" repeatedly to see if a new node shows up. On my machine, /dev/tts has 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 in it, but when I hotsync, USB0 and USB1 automatically appear in this directory.
5. finally, check dmesg to see what information that gives you. _________________ I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work. |

After the reset the time on tts0 changed to 18:04. I just tested it. It changes on evey hotsync.
Again: It is connected to the serial port (COM1 under windows)
I started a new post:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=237570
I think its not only a Palm problem, because my chipdrive don't work also.
It must be something with the communication (the language?).
The connection is established, but only nonsense is send.
I thought about a test with a mouse, but i dont have a serial one.
It works under windows, so I don't think it is a hardware problem. But what else can it be???
Please make any suggestion, I'll try anything. |

Hi again,
i tried the cd-Linux knoppix 3.6 and the palm-pilot works.
but setserial sais:
Code: |
setserial /dev/pilot
/dev/pilot, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
|
So i'll try to set this UART-thing.
Can anybody tell me what that means???? |

This worked:
setserial /dev/pilot uart 16550A
With the other uart the palm-sync runs. |
