Hi,

after updating I discovered a random crash of Evolution 1.4.6 on a stable system.
Does anyone have the same problem or knows a solution?

Thx ...

Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/evolution'

Well, that stack trace doesn't look very informative without the debugging symbols. You'd have to recompile it with the debug USE flag and wait for it to crash again in order to get a proper stack trace. Then, someone familiar with the code could interpret it.

I too have a problem with evolution randomly crashing. This is the only thing that pops up.

The Application "evolution" has quit unexpectedly.

You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it. Or you can restart the application right now.

How do I get to see the stack trace? The only two options are to restart application or close.

DigitalDan, if it happens at startup it might be that an rss feed has dissapeared. When Evolution tries to get it it dies. I had to find the key in GConf and remove the offending news feed.

No, evolution crashes between 1-5 minutes of running it and i'm doing nothing paticular. Although, if i send and receive then it usually will crash right away.

This all started happening Monday 10/11 after I emerged sync and emerged -uDav world

I figured out what the problem was. Whenever I try to connect to my comcast pop mail account it crashes. The randomness was actually every 10 minutes or when I click on send and receive. It just so happened after I did an emerge update.

My Evolution is now running fine in offline-mode. Did you figure out, what feature of the connection causes the problem?
I'm using both POP3 and IMAP with and without SSL encryption, some accounts have CRAM-MD5 auth.

I am also having problems with EVolution 1.4.6 crashing, except for me it is at startup. Whenever I attempt to start Evolution, I will get a dialog that says "The application evolution-1.4 has quit unexpectedly", and I can either restart, quit, or inform the developers. This dialog appears after the splash screen, sometimes before anything else appears, but sometimes after the Evolution window has painted, including the tree view. This problem began on Tuesday after I emerged system and a couple services. Here are the ebuilds that were upgraded and are listed in the dependency graph for Evolution (previous version in parentheses):

gettext-0.12.1-r2 (gettext-0.12.1)
glibc-2.3.4-20040808-r1 (glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r1)
cracklib-2.7-r9 (cracklib-2.7-r8)
readline-4.3-r5 (readline-4.3-r4)
libpng-1.2.7 (libpng-1.2.5-r8)
cups-1.1.20-r3 (cups-1.1.20-r1)
samba-3.0.7-r1 (samba-3.0.7)
expat-1.95.7 (expat-1.95.6-r1)

Is it possible one of these is incompatible with Evolution 1.4.6?

I have unmerged Evolution and re-emerged it, with no luck. I have also emerged Evolution with the debug flag, and can provide the backtrace if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
$$

Tonight I emerged:

glibc-2.3.4.20041006
evolution-2.0.2
gnome-2.8.0-r1
and the required testing packages and now everything works just fine.
