Well, it's a very simple question, but I can't find the answer if searching through the forum.
I just want to know, if everything will go ok, if I emerge Xorg 6.8.0-r1 while I'm doing something in my recent Xorg 6.7.0-r2.

Cheers

I've done that alot of times. The new files are not moved in until the whole emerge is complete. Then you just restart and your new xorg will be running.

I unemerged Xfree while it was running, emerged Xorg (Xfree still running), configured Xorg (XFree still there), and then CTRL+ALT+Backspace, to load XOrg .

One thing to be careful of - if you un-emerge Xorg or XFree while it's running, new applications probably won't start, since the libraries needed are no longer present on disk. Currently running apps will probably remain running fine since their libraries are in memory. Once the new X is emerged and installed, you'll have 'random' results (apps may or may not work) until you start it.

Well I've tryed both, couse I'm doing this on a fast machine. It emerges xorg in about 15-20 minutes.
And First I did it with Xorg running, and I had problems with keyboard and wacom driver when starting, so I emerged it again normaly(without xorg running) and everything was working superb.
So this is my experience
