The title explains it. As I try to launch Frozen Throne via Wine (20040408), I get a message stating that it cannot find a CD key. I do in fact have a valid CD key issued on my Windows XP partition, so I have no clue as to why it would say this. I should also mention that I am quite new at this in regards to Wine and getting a game up. Help would be appreciated, thanks.

As well, if you would like to take a look at my ~/.wine/config file or an excerpt, just ask.

Here's my config, just in case you wanted to look at it:

Code:

WINE REGISTRY Version 2
;; All keys relative to \\Machine\\Software\\Wine\\Wine\\Config

;; If you think it is necessary to show others your complete config for a
;; bug report, filter out empty lines and comments with
;; grep -v "^;" ~/.wine/config | grep '.'
;;
;; MS-DOS drives configuration
;;
;; Each section has the following format:
;; [Drive X]
;; "Path"="xxx"       (Unix path for drive root)
;; "Type"="xxx"       (supported types are 'floppy', 'hd', 'cdrom' and 'network')
;; "Label"="xxx"      (drive label, at most 11 characters)
;; "Serial"="xxx"     (serial number, 8 characters hexadecimal number)
;; "Filesystem"="xxx" (supported types are 'msdos'/'dos'/'fat', 'win95'/'vfat', 'unix')
;;   This is the FS Wine is supposed to emulate on a certain
;;   directory structure.
;;   Recommended:
;;   - "win95" for ext2fs, VFAT and FAT32
;;   - "msdos" for FAT16 (ugly, upgrading to VFAT driver strongly recommended)
;;   DON'T use "unix" unless you intend to port programs using Winelib !
;; "Device"="/dev/xx" (only if you want to allow raw device access)

[Update]: I've just been tinkering around, and tried to "wine install.exe" in my /mnt/cdrom directory. A screen does come up (although just black) and I get a message that says, "No program start menu found"

Any advice, anyone?

Why dont u try to use a NoCD crack? just backup the files u will overwrite so u can change to them when a patch is released.

First, do I have to install Warcraft 3 using the fake_windows method, or can I go ahead an try to run it off of my Windows partition?

For the "No program start menu found" thing, it is because you need to add something to your user.reg file in .wine. Read one of the last comments on this page, it worked for me:

http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=897&versionId=1177

I would definitely use the fake_windows method, else I think wine won't detect your War3 CD Key.

I actually had installed War3 through Cedega and wine wouldnt launch the game. However I now managed to install War3 with wine and it works ok - now my problem is to install Frozen Throne, it refuses to do so because it doesnt detect my War3 version...
