hey. I am setting up gentoo for my brother on his g4 imac, it is all up and running apart for things such as sound etc. When installing the kernel, as I did not have much time to do the research, I just used the kernel from the live cd which was ok at the time. Now I am wanting to set that up correctly and was wondering if there were any premade kernel .config files for that imac, as they are prety much set as a standard issue with all the hardware (well I presume they are) and chances are I will not get it right with all the hardware on it which I have never set up before.

Thanks :)

Try booting from the LiveCD, and then use the /dev/config.zip file. When Gentoo boots it will check your hardware and then save a configuration to that file. You can use this when you compile a new kernel, and add everything you want...

AFAIK yes. It worked for me most excellent... There are some good threads about enabling ALSA on Macs around, just have a look.

Cheers,
