im about to install gentoo, but i am worried with all the compiling i may overheat by computer or may cause some damage with all the compiling that is necessary? is there any basis for my worries or no? Also i have plenty of cooling on my computer . |

Thats what i thought i was just curious about the load on my system and if it could really damage it. |

Your system will not be damaged or overheat by installing Gentoo or doing a lot of compilation. People would simply not use source based distros if it did.
Video games are more hardware intensive than compiling programs.

Depending on your hardware, it may take a good while to compile everything (ie: set up a mini script to emerge what you want to install, then go watch TV for the evening, go to bed, go to school/work the next day) and then enjoy gentoo ;o)
I have a P4 2.4GHz laptop, and it gets warm on its own but no more when it's compiling stuff for hours at a time.
