setting which driver is eth0 or eth1

Built-in realtek 8139too
Built-in hermes/orinoco 802.11b wireless

I compiled my kernel with both of these drivers built in (not modules), but now I can't seem to figure out how I tell the system which device is eth0 or which device is eth1.

Reason I ask: if I set pcmcia to be on when the laptop boots, my wireless becomes eth0; and if I have pcmcia off when the laptop boots, my realtek interface is eth0.

How can I force my wireless interface to *always* be eth0, and my realtek to *always* be eth1 if I'm not using modules for their drivers?

If you're using udev and sysfs you *might* be able to force it. I'm not positive but check into the documentation for writing udev rules and that might point you in the right direction. Other than that I've no ideas.
