Howto use irc:// in KDE 3.3 (xchat instead of kopete)

Hi,

I compiled KDE 3.3 earlier on today, and realised that konqueror is now supporting the irc:// protocol. Well, when I click on an irc link, kopete opens up, but nothing much happens besides that.
Is there a possibility to change konquerors behaviour for irc:// links, and if so, how can I change it, so that instead of kopete, xchat will connect to the relevant server?

P.S. I did check all the config files I could find and googled for this issue, but didn't find anything useful, so instead of a flame a link would be apprechiated if this issue has been discussed before
